Senior Purchasing Specialist
Senior Purchasing Specialist
National Equipment & Service (NES) -- Irvine, CA | On-site | Full-Time
Most people don't think about loading docks and roll-up doors until one fails. Then a warehouse slows down, shipments stall, and the whole operation feels it.
At National Equipment & Service (NES), we keep Southern California's warehouses, distribution centers, and commercial facilities moving. We specialize in loading dock equipment, roll-up doors, and industrial access systems across Orange County, Los Angeles, and the Inland Empire. We've built our reputation by being the service partner customers can actually count on when things go wrong.
Now we're looking for a Senior Purchasing Specialist to help us build what comes next.
Why this role matters
This is not a maintenance job inside a polished machine. This is a chance to step into a visible, high-impact role and help build a stronger purchasing function inside a growing service business.
You'll own purchasing end-to-end, improve how we source and manage parts, reduce waste and delays, strengthen vendor performance, and help make sure our technicians have what they need when they need it. Your work will directly affect service speed, customer satisfaction, and margins.
If you've ever looked at a purchasing operation and thought, "This could run a whole lot better, and I know how to fix it," this role was built for you.
What you'll do
In this role, you will:
- Take ownership of purchasing across parts, materials, and equipment so the function runs with discipline, accuracy, and accountability.
- Improve part availability and reduce the field friction that comes from stockouts, wrong parts, rushed orders, and reactive buying.
- Build stronger vendor relationships, negotiate better pricing and service, and identify better sourcing options.
- Reduce cost of goods sold by improving how frequently used parts and categories are sourced.
- Create better purchasing visibility through process improvements, reporting, and practical metrics.
- Help turn a reactive purchasing environment into a more scalable, systematic operation.
On any given day, you might be solving a tricky sourcing problem, evaluating a better vendor path, improving a process inside ServiceTitan, reviewing spend trends, or working with the service team to prevent the next avoidable disruption before it happens.
What success looks like
A top person in this role will:
- Quickly learn our equipment categories, parts environment, and operational workflow.
- Build confidence with field and service teams by helping them get the right parts faster and more reliably.
- Improve purchasing accuracy and reduce avoidable errors, returns, and delays.
- Deliver measurable savings through smarter sourcing and stronger vendor strategy.
- Build the systems, cadence, and visibility needed to support NES as we scale.
What we're looking for
We're looking for a hands-on purchasing professional who has worked in a field service, industrial service, MRO, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, equipment service, facilities maintenance, industrial distribution, or similar environment where urgency, technical fit, and real-world problem-solving matter.
You'll likely be a strong fit if you bring:
- Significant purchasing, procurement, or senior buyer experience in a service-oriented or industrial environment
- Experience sourcing non-routine or technically specific parts, materials, or equipment
- A track record of improving purchasing processes, vendor performance, or cost structure
- Strong judgment, follow-through, and ownership
- Comfort working cross-functionally with operations, service, vendors, and internal stakeholders
- Experience with ServiceTitan, ERP, FSM, or purchasing systems is a plus
You do not need direct dock-and-door experience to succeed here. But you do need to be someone who can learn technical details quickly, ask the right questions, and improve how purchasing works in a live operating environment.
Who thrives here
This role is best for someone who:
- Likes building, improving, and fixing systems
- Wants ownership, not just activity
- Is analytical, practical, and proactive
- Can stay hands-on while thinking strategically
- Wants a career move with more impact, more visibility, and more room to shape results
If you're looking for a narrow corporate lane with lots of layers, this probably isn't it.
If you want a chance to make a visible difference in a growing company where your work matters every day, we should talk.
Why NES
We're at an inflection point. The team we build now will shape what NES looks like at twice our current size. The people who join us in this window will have more ownership, more influence, and more opportunity to help define how we grow than the people who join later.
This is a chance to step into a role where your ideas, systems, and decisions will matter.
Essential Attributes
We don't hire for a list of adjectives. We hire for how people actually operate. If the statements below describe the way you already work -- not the way you aspire to work -- keep reading.
- Customer-Centric Excellence. You've had a moment where doing right by the customer cost you something -- extra time, extra effort, or an awkward conversation. You did it anyway, without being asked.
- Complete Ownership. When something goes wrong on your watch, your first move is to fix it -- not explain why it wasn't your fault. You own the outcome, not just the effort.
- Principled Collaboration. You've pushed back on a decision you disagreed with -- clearly and professionally. And once the call was made, you executed without passive resistance or revisiting it sideways.
- Empowered Trust. You share information openly, even when it's inconvenient. You'd rather surface a problem early than look smooth while it quietly gets worse.
- Relentless Learning. You've deliberately gotten better at something in the last 12 months -- a skill, a process, a way of working. Not because someone told you to, but because staying still isn't how you operate.
- Analytical Discipline. When you see a spike in spend or a vendor issue, your instinct is to pull the data and understand the pattern before you react. You trust numbers more than narratives.
